Jane Kitching
Born in India in 1961, Jane spent much of her childhood in North Yorkshire where she developed her love of painting. Later, following a degree in Microbiology at Leeds University, she returned to North Yorkshire where she formally studied Textiles and Design. On leaving college Jane established ‘Trinity Designs Ltd’, swiftly developing an international portfolio of textile designs, wall art and stationery. She has regularly exhibited in Frankfurt, Brussels and New York and has accepted invitations to show her work in Atlanta and Kansas.
Although still designing for companies, Jane has recently enjoyed increasing success with her first love:painting landscapes – often with quirky and humorous observations of people at work and play. Her first solo exhibition in May 2012 was hugely popular.
Jane now exhibits in several galleries in the North East and beyond and also enjoys undertaking private commissions.
Jane says:
“If you could say it in words, there’d be no reason to paint” Edward Hopper
“I have to paint! My inspiration comes from the people, landscapes and things that I love. Whether walking on the beautiful moody North Yorkshire Moors or the stunning coastlines evoking childhood memories of blustery play days on the beaches, I am constantly absorbing colour, texture, shape and line; sketching ideas to be used later in my studio.
An observer of people, I love to portray their fascinating and often amusing antics. I want my paintings to prompt a smile, and to express my affection for all that I see.”
