Sheffield born and bred, Mike trained as an architect and worked in practice for many years until illness curtailed his career. Having painted as a boy and as a student and then stopped due to pressure of work, setting up home etc., he took it up again in his forties, taking great pleasure in tackling the challenges offered by watercolour.
His subjects were mainly the Pennine landscapes around his home and marine subjects inspired by his annual pilgrimage to the Isle of Wight. In more recent years, becoming more and more fascinated by texture and light has led him to concentrate on still life pieces in watercolour and gouache. These have proved to be very successful and well received.
Mike has been elected a member of the Yorkshire Watercolour Society, the British Watercolour Society and a Fellow of the International Guild of Artists.
His paintings can be seen in galleries in the North of England and in collections worldwide.
