Pete Edwards
The two main areas of interest in my work Lino Cuts and Raku Ceramics.
Lino Cuts
Themes are centred around wildlife and their changing environment. My work is mainly black and white with the odd touch of colour. Often the moon, sun, and various weather patterns are within the works along with a strong sense of movement.
Raku Stoneage Ceramics
Raku ceramics has the attraction of being unpredictable. This is the opposite of the lino cuts. The first animal representations were cave paintings and I find it refreshing to experiment with this way of working. Images are inscribed on clay then fired in a kiln and removed at glaze temperature. The piece is then put into sawdust and burnt in an atmosphere of smoke. The process causes the clay to go through a process of thermal shock where cracks appear in the glaze and clay. The final image is impregnated with carbon and looks ancient.
